Hewitt lands in Halle QFs

06/09/2010 - Halle, Germany (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt was an easy second-round winner Wednesday at the Gerry Weber Open, a grass-court Wimbledon tune-up.

The two-time major champion Hewitt humbled Dutchman Thiemo De Bakker 6-3, 6-3 at Gerry Weber Stadium.

Hewitt's quarterfinal opponent on Friday will be German Andreas Beck, who outlasted his fellow wild card compatriot Nicolas Kiefer 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4) on Day 3. Kiefer titled here in 1999 and was the back-to-back Halle runner-up in 2002 and 2003.

In other second-round play, Slovakian Lukas Lacko overcame German lucky-loser Dominik Meffert 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 and German favorite Philipp Petzschner handled Serbian Viktor Troicki 7-6 (7-5), 6-3. Lacko and Petzschner will square off in the round of eight.

The first round concluded with a pair of results on Wednesday, as Colombian Alejandro Falla topped Israeli Noam Okun 6-4, 6-3 and German Benjamin Becker leveled Russian Mikhail Ledovskikh 6-4, 6-2. Falla is rewarded with a second- rounder against world No. 2 Swiss icon Roger Federer, while Becker will take on second-seeded Russian star Nikolay Davydenko on Thursday.

The top-seeded former world No. 1 Federer, the reigning Australian Open and Wimbledon champion, is a five-time Halle titlist and has won his last 26 matches here.
